ASAP!
Alcohol and Substance Abuse Prevention in Cocke County
Housed by Community House Cooperative, Inc.
Our mission is:
· to build a network of supports and venues for youth and families that will provide skills and opportunities for personal community empowerment, relationship building, conflict resolution and creative expression
· to bring youth and families together in creating a community that enjoys a climate of overall health, well-being and inclusiveness for all while blurring the lines that separate one group from one another
· to provide youth and families with the concept of choice as a possibility, while providing them with skills for making healthy choices
Let’s provide our youth with healthy alternatives to behaviors that are harmful to themselves and others.
We started in 2000 as a volunteer organization led by a therapist at Cherokee Mental Health Systems. In 2003 the first grant was awarded and funded many programs including: The Boys and Girls Club, Peer Mediation at CCHS, The JustUs Troupe, Parenting Education, Community Arts Mini-Scholarship Program, and the Community Beautification Program.
In 2005 the Coalition became a division of Community House Cooperative, Inc. We are currently going through transitions and hope you will help us as we reach out for new tools and support in promoting healthy lives for ourselves and our children in Cocke County.
ASAP! has sponsored youth arts events through the past year and hope to continue to involve more kids as time goes on. We meet for discussion and planning on the second Tuesday of the month at six p.m. at the Tanner Cultural Center across from CVS. Come help us make a better future for all of Cocke County!
